Primary Certificate in Climate Coaching Psychology
This course introduces climate coaching and climate coaching psychology as an applied, evidence-informed approach that draws on coaching psychology, positive psychology, cognitive-behavioural approaches and ecopsychology to support clients’ wellbeing, resilience, motivation and agency in relation to their response to the climate emergency.
This programme is run in association with our affiliated faculty, the International Centre for Ecopsychology. It may be of interest to coaches, positive and coaching psychologists, counsellors and other professionals wishing to increase their knowledge about climate coaching psychology and its application to their field of practice.
Learners are provided with a printed workbook. Also there is access to online resources including articles and videos.
Prior knowledge of the causes of climate change will not be necessary as they will be covered in this course. For the purposes of skills training, Learners should be prepared to discuss one problem or issue in small group work relating to climate change concerns. Normal rules of confidentiality apply.
AIM
To become knowledgeable about climate coaching and climate coaching psychology, enabling ethical, reflective and effective practice in response to climate-related distress and change.
OBJECTIVES

To define Climate Psychology, Climate Coaching and Climate Coaching Psychology

To understand the psychological and health impacts of climate change.

To define climate change anxiety/eco-anxiety, eco-depression and ecological grief.

To understand the principles and theoretical foundations of climate coaching and climate coaching psychology.

To become knowledgeable about the ‘Simple, Serious, Solvable’ approach to understanding and tackling climate change.

To apply knowledge and a range of skills, techniques and strategies drawn from coaching and positive psychology to support clients’ wellbeing, resilience, motivation and agency in relation to their response to the climate emergency.

To work ethically and within professional boundaries when addressing climate-related concerns.

To recognise the wider social and ecological influences.

To work towards becoming a climate-conscious practitioner who is a climate literate professional, knowledgeable about climate change to enhance information giving in coaching and coaching psychology practice, training and supervision.

To reflect on personal responses to climate change and maintaining practitioner wellbeing.

To consider how to apply and integrate the course topics into one's own professional practice and approach.

To consider how to obtain appropriate practice supervision and Continuing Professional Development.
POST PROGRAMME REVIEW & CERTIFICATE
A CPD certificate is provided for all attendees. Learners wishing to obtain a Certificate of Achievement need to submit a 750 word Post Programme Review.
PROGRAMME RECOGNITION
The programme is Approved by the International Society for Coaching Psychology and can be used towards becoming ISCP accredited coaching psychologist.
TRAINERS
The trainers are Dr Siobhain O’Riordan PhD CPsychol FISCP and/or Professor Stephen Palmer PhD CPsychol FISCP. They are Chartered Coaching Psychologists, and are ISCP Accredited Coaching Psychologists and Supervisors. Both trainers are award winning psychologists who have undertaken ecopsychology based research and have facilitated ‘walk and talk’ coaching workshops and masterclasses at international and national conferences. They are both editors of a peer reviewed publication, the Journal of Ecopsychology (JoE) and are on the Advisory Board of the ISCP Faculty of Climate Change and Coaching Psychology.
